Build Recipe: The Ultimate Toyota GR Supra Upgrades for Daily Driving

Step 1: Disable Active Sound Design and Auto Start Stop
Before installing a single performance part, we often recommend addressing two factory features that many owners find frustrating and also may cause premature wear on the engine.
Active Sound Design (ADS)
The GR Supra uses Active Sound Design, a system that artificially pumps engine sound into the cabin through the vehicle's speakers. While intended to create a sportier feeling, many enthusiasts feel it detracts from the authentic character of the car or feels inauthentic to the heritage of the car. Disabling ADS allows drivers to hear the true sound of the B58 engine without electronic enhancement. The result is a more natural and engaging driving experience.
Auto Start Stop
The factory auto start stop system automatically shuts the engine off at traffic lights and during short stops. While designed to improve fuel economy, many Supra owners find the system intrusive during daily driving. Repeated engine restarts can also contribute to increased wear on various engine components over time like rod bearings.
Disabling this feature provides a smoother and more consistent driving experience, especially in heavy city traffic.

Step 2: Give the B58 the Sound It Deserves

Cat Back Exhaust System
Adding a performance cat back exhaust is one of the most transformative modifications available for the GR Supra. A well designed exhaust system unlocks the deeper tones, crackles and an increase in torque that many owners feel the factory exhaust leaves hidden.
In addition to the improved soundtrack, many aftermarket systems offer modest power gains and reduced exhaust restriction. Here are some of the options we often recommend our customers;
Step 3: Improve Throttle Response
The GR Supra is already quick, but some drivers find themselves wanting a sharper connection between the throttle pedal and the vehicle's response. Fortunately, there is one simple upgrade that can significantly improve throttle response.
HKS SSQV Blow Off Valve
The HKS SSQV Blow Off Valve helps improve boost management while adding an unmistakable turbocharged sound, the same sound that harkens back to the original Fast and Furious movies.
By helping the turbocharger maintain boost characteristics during shifting and throttle transitions, the vehicle feels more responsive and eager to accelerate. Combined with an intake system, the HKS SSQV delivers both performance benefits and additional driver engagement;
Step 4: Lower It Without Sacrificing Comfort
Toyota's Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system is one of the GR Supra's strongest features. The factory setup provides an excellent balance of ride quality and handling precision, making it difficult to justify replacing the entire suspension system on a street focused build. For most daily driven Supras, we recommend maintaining the factory AVS dampers and upgrading to a quality height adjustable lowering spring system.
HKS Height Adjustable Springs (HAS)
The HKS Height Adjustable Spring kit is one of our favorite suspension upgrades for the GR Supra. Unlike traditional lowering springs, the HKS HAS system allows ride height adjustment while retaining the factory adaptive suspension functionality.

Step 4B: Coilover Suspension
HKS offers the HYPER MAX S and R. Geared for S street comfort while still giving you damper adjustment, ride height adjustment and very importantly EDC canceller so that you done get any pesky lights on the dash.
The R model is track focused yet still compliant enough for street use. A great offering for those looking for a bolt on solution with little to no aero.
Step 4C: TRACK Suspension
As you know we love pushing the limits of our vehicles. When going fast or running big aero its common to require more extreme spring and damper choices. We commonly use Track One coilovers for our local track enthusiasts and racers. They offer local suspension tuning, supply and service. Meaning if we want to do a valve change, or any modifications they are local.

Step 5: Upgrade to Lightweight Wheels
The GR Supra responds exceptionally well to lightweight wheel upgrades. While many owners initially choose aftermarket wheels for appearance, the performance benefits are equally significant.

Some great Flow Formed options come from Enkei and Konig for those looking for a little bit of a cost break while still looking great. We commonly downsize to 18" to aid with more value driven tire options and that race inspired look.
