Build Recipe: Best Mods for a 6th Gen Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE Street Build
The sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE is one of the best handling muscle cars ever built. With its LT1 V8, Alpha chassis, Magnetic Ride Control, and Brembo brakes, the 1LE delivers incredible performance right from the factory. Let the LT1 Sound Like It Should
The LT1 V8 deserves to be heard. A quality cold air intake paired with a cat back exhaust system improves airflow, sharpens throttle response, and gives the Camaro the deep V8 soundtrack it was meant to have. It's one of the most rewarding upgrades you can make for both performance and driving enjoyment.

Upgrade to 2-piece Brake Rotors
The factory Brembo brakes are excellent, but adding 2-piece brake rotors provide better heat management, improved durability and lower rotational mass during braking. 2-piece rotors allow drivers to avoid brake fade during spirited driving and the lower mass improves stopping power overall. Pair them with quality brake pads and fresh fluid for a noticeable improvement in confidence behind the wheel.
Improve Handling
BMR Suspension components are a fantastic upgrade for the Camaro SS 1LE. Adjustable suspension arms, bushings and cradle lockout kits reduce suspension deflection, improve chassis stability, and allow for a more precise performance alignment. The result is sharper handling without sacrificing everyday drive ability.
Top hats are also critical to improve lap times and contact patch under load. Vorshlag makes our favorite. These top hats allow better steering feel and negative camber increase we need to dial in the grip.
Get a Professional Performance Alignment
One of the best upgrades isn't a part at all. A custom performance alignment optimizes camber, toe, and caster for your driving style, improving steering response, tire wear, and overall cornering grip. It's one of the highest value services available for any performance car.
There is typically a good amount of adjustment from the factory, but for track use we want to see even higher negative camber numbers that stock hardware will allow for. BMR offers some great control arms for the rear. When going to higher negative camber angles the rear TOE does not have enough adjustment.
Upgrade Your Tires
Tires have the biggest impact on how your Camaro performs.
The Nankang CR-S is an excellent choice for enthusiasts looking for exceptional grip and predictable handling on both the street and during occasional track days.
The Bridgestone RE71RZ is the Ultimate street and track tire. With incredible wet weather performance and even more grip when warmed up on a dry track they are the top choice for both street and track driving. Stiff sidewalls and a newly revised compound contribute to superior handling and response.
Either option dramatically improves the car's handling and driver confidence.
Reduce Weight with Lightweight Wheels
Lightweight wheels improve more than just appearance. Reducing rotational weight enhances acceleration, braking, steering response, and suspension performance. Combined with quality tires, they're one of the best all around upgrades for the Camaro platform.
